hoarding

I'm swiping all the good furniture from other bedrooms in the house and furnishing my room now that Charmaine (housemate) is moving back to the States. This includes Charmaine's bed, which I apologetically asked my landlord to move for me today. His cheery response: "Oh, that's easy. Easy as saying 'Good morning!' ... Good morning!" (hangs up).

An embarrassing aspect of being an American: we (USAIDS, the embassy) have ridiculous and absurd amounts of security for everything. Zambians just shake their heads and say we must be really concerned about protecting Bush's interests, but it's crazy that you can't even park in front of USAIDS if you're a visitor, and if you drive up to the U.S. embassy unannounced, you're car will be immediately surrounded by guards armed with rifles.
